Nowadays, we’d like to believe that there is a scientific explanation for everything, but experts concur that infants occasionally scream for no apparent reason. What is certain is that infants communicate by crying. Suddenly, they are a part of this whole new universe, surrounded by strange sights and sounds.
They might simply be seeking solace, or they might be experimenting with their new means of contact.
In either case, it is very natural for babies to occasionally weep just for the sake of crying.
So what is my advice?
That it’s OK to be alarmed by your baby’s cries because our DNA is designed to make us attentive parents. Take a big breath and weather the storm by just giving your baby your warmth. So you don’t have to worry if you’ve already tried all the typical things that quiet babies down (feeding, burping, a new diaper, and a swaddle). When you need a moment to gather yourself, it’s also acceptable to leave the infant unattended in a secure location for small intervals of time.
There’s a good chance the baby’s mood will change and everything will return to normal soon.
It’s a good idea to check to see if your baby has a fever that needs a doctor’s treatment. This is if you notice a change in how frequently they cry or you just have a gut sense something is awry. Consult with your baby’s doctor even if your child’s temperature appears to be absolutely normal.
Always be ready
After three weeks, a baby’s days and nights are more predictable, allowing you to concentrate on yourself as well as your new arrival. Having everything prepared for your hungry baby and yourself is one method to do that. Another is to lower your stress level. As soon as the last feeding is finished, begin preparing for the subsequent one. For instance, after feeding at 11 p.m., prepare for the one at 2 a.m.
